NIC’s CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

National Insurance Corporation (NIC) aligns its economic developments with social obligations to give back to society. NIC adopts a corporate social responsibility culture that supports sports activities and promoting education.

Sports sponsorship and promotion

NIC has a corporate social responsibility towards uplifting and illuminating the sports culture of Uganda. Through this, NIC has shown genuine supportiveness to the Federation of Uganda football association (FUFA) through sponsoring The Uganda Cranes vs. Nigeria in the 2008 African Cup of nations qualifiers match in Abeokuta, Nigeria in March 2007 and for the return match in Uganda in June 2007.

The sponsorship package to the Uganda Cranes catered for players’ allowances but also insured each player against personal accidents during the match up to a tune of $ 10,000 thus NIC becoming the official insurer of the Uganda Cranes. 

Federation of Motor Sport Clubs in Uganda

NIC’s contribution to Sports is evident through various activities on the Ugandan sports calendar. The sponsorship to the Federation of Motor sport clubs in Uganda for the Pearl of Africa motor rally which attaracts Rally champions from all over Africa i.e. South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe to mention but a few. The Motor rally is a two in one event that lasts three days that kicks with a royal Circuit in the Lubiri (Kabaka’s palace) on day on and thereafter traverses the southern central route for two days.This is in line with NIC’ motor Insurance policy. 

Uganda Federation of Netball Association of Uganda

NIC has a legacy with the Federation of Uganda Netball Association supporting the federation with a fully equipped and well catered for in house NIC netball team which has proved a force to reckon with; having been east and central Africa champions for the last 7 years. 

Inter university Netball championships 2007

NIC through its branch networks supports the inter-University netball games by donating Trophies, kits, balls, netball court accessories, coaches and referees allowances. This year’s championships were held at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology in western Uganda.    

Uganda sports press association

NIC has supported the Uganda sports press association (USPA) through funding its delegates' trip to the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) 70th Congress in Bregenz, Austria that brings together all sportsJournalists in the world to deliberate on development of sports and sports journalism 

Community relations through Education

•         NIC’ partnership with Newspapers in Education (NiE)  a concept by Daily Monitor news paper that  uses newspapers in Primary schools for purposes of improving literacy, addressing the reading culture head-on with termly awards to all children of a designated school with reading passports or Diplomas.

•         Daily Monitor successfully carried out the reading passport in term 1 of the school program in 11 schools located in central Uganda.

•         NIC sponsors a total number of 5,580 children from 11 schools and all these children are able to benefit from this project in Term 1, 2007 as a major seed planted by NIC to inspire them to read and develop their education by Supplying them weekly with reading material on current social, economic and political issues through Daily Monitor Newspapers.

 This is in line with NIC’s comprehensive package for schools insurance policy.
