National Insurance Corporation officially handed over a compensation of 14 million shillings to Dabani Girls Secondary School in Busia District in the Eastern part of Uganda. In the opening remarks of the Headmistress of Dabani Girls School, Mrs. Yiga Namutebi narrated the scenario from her initial contact with NIC until the day the school dormitory caught fire and expressed gratitude towards the supportiveness from NIC. “My personal experience with National Insurance Corporation during this difficult time when I needed them most has been of genuine compassion and I would like to take this opportunity to applaud NIC for transforming the image we (public) had on Insurance companies, I also want to pledge that Dabani Girls’ School will continue to work with NIC” Said Mrs. Yiga Namutebi after receiving the Fourteen million shillings(14 million) Cheque from Mrs. Ann Idro-Canowira, the Senior Manager Private sector. The compensation which included 150 bags of cement, 150 Iron sheets, 150 pairs of school Uniforms and 15 triple Decker beds was in honour of a Material Damage policy under the Comprehensive Insurance Package for Schools that NIC introduced this year to cater for the increasing damage of property by fires, floods and other catastrophes in schools. Dabani Girls Secondary School was among of the first schools in Eastern Uganda to sign up for this new product from NIC. Speaking after handing over ceremony, the Senior Manger Private Sector, National Insurance Corporation commended Dabani Girls School for having taken a wise decision to insure their school and also urged schools that are not insured to join the Insurance policy and take advantage of other new products like Teachers insurance savings plan and Employees insurance plan..
To witness the handover were the following District officials from Busia; - District Education Officer, Asst. Chief Administration officer, Chairman Head teacher’s Association, Chairman, Board of Governors and School PTA Members.
